Meditation 40
As a shepherd carries a lamb, I have carried you close carried you close to my heart.
Isaiah 40:11
He will feed his flock like a shepherd. He will gather the lambs in his arm, and carry them in his bosom. He will gently lead those who have their young. (WEB)
The Bible uses the word picture of a loving shepherd caring for his flock of sheep to illustrate God’s desire for intimacy with mankind. Imagine the look on the shepherd’s face as he lovingly gazes down into the eyes of each lamb he holds close to his breast. There is no other place that these lambs would rather be at that moment in time.
What a picture of intimacy and safety! Their shepherd cares for them and has vowed to lay his life down for their protection. That is exactly how God wants to relate to you. He is your Shepherd, and you are His little lamb whom He dearly loves and wants to protect.
PRAYER
Loving Father, pick me up and hold me in Your strong arms. I want to hear the beating of Your heart and feel the warmth and safety of Your embrace. You are the Great Shepherd, and I am just a little lamb who needs to be held. Thank You for holding me close to Your heart. Amen.
