Meditation 17
I have been misrepresented by those who don’t know me.
John 8:41-44
41 You do the works of your father.” They said to him, “We were not born of sexual immorality. We have one Father, God.” 42 Therefore Jesus said to them, “If God were your father, you would love me, for I came out and have come from God. For I haven’t come of myself, but he sent me. 43 Why don’t you understand my speech? Because you can’t hear my word. 44 You are of your father, the devil, and you want to do the desires of your father. He was a murderer from the beginning, and doesn’t stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks on his own; for he is a liar, and the father of lies. (WEB)
Many people today struggle with misconceptions about God. Some see Him as an impersonal cosmic rule-giver; others picture Him as an emotionally distant earthly father. If you really want to know what Father is like, all you have to do is look at His Son, Jesus. All of Jesus’ acts of compassion and kindness were pure expressions of His Father’s true nature. So don’t be fooled—God is the Father you’ve been looking for all your life!
PRAYER
Father, I want to know You for who You really are. I want to see You as You are, not as I thought You to be. I repent of every lie that I have believed about You. You are a loving Father. Thank You for revealing Your true nature to me through the life of Your Son, Jesus. Amen.
